How can we catalyse the game changing inventions, that would save the world?

Hi I’m Jesse, and I know that some inventions are too important to fail. Right now there are thousands of products, and pieces of products, components of the whole, that would work together to save people and planet. Super Hero Tech. 

But most of it, despite huge commercial opportunity, won’t make it. It’ll fail. 

For the last seven years I’ve been a business growth consultant, and startup builder, in my home region, Te Tai Tokerau, at the top of Aotearoa New Zealand. Lots of natural capital, very little actual capital, huge entrepreneurial talent, no dedicated universities. I help inventors, geniuses some of them, commercialise. 

In my work I’ve learned that for most founders crossing the chasm won’t happen, and I’m fed up with seeing incredible inventions fail. I'm going to solve that problem, so those genius product teams can focus on fixing big bad problems that threaten our safety. 

I’m going to create the conditions for success for super hero tech to be utilised where it’s needed.

To do this, I’m starting with research, ‘How to Catalyse Game Changing Inventions (that could save the world)’. Later, this work will be published, used to lobby, build new mechanisms, and better policies.

So far I’ve interviewed leaders in academia, finance, the home office, big corporations and startup, and I need to talk to ambitious SMEs, next.

I’m asking big questions. Like, what happens to the system when we have fully diverse engagement? Gender, ethnicity and socioeconomic background that’s fully representative of the population. Is there a better way to protect IP than the blunt - and expensive - instrument, patents? What should be the role of the public purse in innovation and enterprise? And if you had a magic wand, what would you do to improve the conditions for startup success?
